Artistic Visions on Climate Crises and Sustainable Future

Lonely Planet - 2 is a confluence of artists both seasoned as well as emerging, each with their unique outlook and vision on the current climate crisis and environmental degradation. We, the inhabitants of planet Earth have been quite detrimental to its existence and as consequence, facing the exigencies of global warming through extreme heat waves, tsunamis, flooding due to heavy rains, severe droughts and other natural calamities in our day to day lives.

The present show is an extended conversation focusing on ecological crises initiated in its preceding show Lonely Planet -1, conceived by artist / curator Sayam Bharat Yadav. In his own artworks, Bharat delves deeply into the changing topographies surrounding the city of Hyderabad and its impact on domesticated animals, an intrinsic part of his childhood and Indian cultural ethos, as they lose their natural environs to rapidly growing urbanization. With a sense of responsibility to bring social awareness through artistic endeavours, the first show was envisioned. It successfully presented multifarious aspects of climate crisis with experimental mediums and materials by a small group of artists. However, the current show, curated meticulously aims to expand the dialogue with an even broader range of artistic voices and their idiosyncratic standpoints; fostering an engagement, dialogue and a collective consciousness for a sustainable future.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the Environmental Art movement, with several artists reflecting on the delicate balance between nature and human intervention. This new iteration promises a richer, more diverse exploration of ecological themes, showcasing how art can provoke thought and inspire change in response to the environmental challenges in the age of Anthropocene. While each of the participating artists convey their ruminations on the concept of ‘Lonely Planet’ by devising their individual styles and mediums such as painting, sculpture, installations, photography, video art, the viewers are invited to an aesthetic experience that urges them to contemplate over the theme with a sense of constructive consciousness in preserving and sustaining this ‘Lonely Planet’ that we call ‘Home’.
